The Lady Sauras started the season with a win Friday night as they traveled to McMichael High School and defeated the Lady Phoenix 63-59.  A harassing defense, key shooting from the outside, and clutch free throws down the stretch helped the out sized Sauras earn the victory.  The Sauras were led by Maddy Shore with 21 points and Mallory Tedder with 19.  Tatyana Childress chipped in with 16 points as well as coming up big in the defensive end of the floor.  Ashley James was 5-8 from the free throw line and finished with 7 points, but gave the Lady Sauras a big post presence as well as rebounding help, despite getting limited time on the floor due to foul trouble.  Tedder was 12-16 from the free throw line, and Maddy Shore was 5-8.  Makensie Wagner also came up big on the defensive end of the floor for the Sauras.  The Lady Sauras trailed by as much as 15 in the first half, but the girls came out after halftime and tightened up on the defensive end, as well as getting out in transition better in the second half to take the lead in the fourth quarter and finally seal the victory.  The Lady Sauras are 1-0 on the season.  The Sauras will be on the road again Wednesday Nov. 22 at West Wilkes High School.
